when i started looking into dollhouses a few years ago i fell in love with The Mackintosh House. for me, this is the Rolls Royce of dollhouses. little did i know that it would shortly be discontinued. perhaps someday i'll find one on ebay? a girl can dream...
for several agonizing days, i continued my search. should i get a big house (being a collector by nature, i imagine that i might fill a house fairly quickly)? or, perhaps, since this is to be my first house i should begin with something small? perhaps learning all the ins and outs of building and decorating on a big, expensive house is a bad idea? before i show you the small house that i had just about settled on, here's a big house that i love. The Bostonian.
it's a real beauty, but at least for me, definitely not the right choice for a first house. the house that i was seriously considering was this sweet, little house, The New Orleans.
for a novice builder, it was still a big investment. i knew that there were plenty of miniatures to be found on ebay, but i hadn't thought of searching for a dollhouse kit. back to ebay i went and before i knew it, i had purchased The Simplicity Dollhouse Kit for a song! yesterday i lugged this up a flight of stairs from the mailbox.
newspaper packed inside the box was dated 1990. i guess that someone bought the kit and abandoned it. after looking over all the pieces, i quickly realized that i would struggle to put this together on my own. i am quite good at decorating, but assembling things not so much. i may not break ground until my boyfriend comes to visit...
